0xGarfield · 加菲众
Hey there, everyone! I'm 0xGarfield, a.k.a. Garfield Zhong, on the air, tuning in from the bustling heart of the broadcasting world.
It all kicked off back in July 2003 in Xiamen, where I secured the second prize at the Minnan Regional Radio and Television Host Competition - when I was a sophomore in the Chemistry Department at Xiamen University.
That was just the beginning. I quickly found my groove hosting "Sunshine FM" on Xiamen Music Radio FM90.9, where I connected with my listeners and really sharpened my skills.
Fast forward to January 2006, I made the big leap to Beijing to join the incredible team at China Radio International Hit FM. Here, I wore many hats—DJ, reporter, music program host, and producer.
One of my gigs was launching "Hit the Road," a show that whisked our listeners around the globe through music and travel stories.
I also had the amazing opportunity to chat with legends like Kobe Bryant, Mark Ronson, Avril Lavigne, Cui Jian, Maroon 5, Eels, Suede, Far East Movement, Paul van Dyk, Tiësto...on our "5 Spot" interview segment.
Let's not forget the electric vibes of the "Hit Morning Show" and "Party Animal." Each show was a blast and truly cemented Hit FM's rep as the go-to station for killer content and insight into the music world.
My journey also took a cool detour to New York's East Village Radio in November 2011, where I dove into diverse broadcasting styles and brought back some fresh ideas to spice up our shows back home.
I've roamed through the most vibrant music communities across Europe and the US, and my experiences in the States absolutely blew me away!
By June 2012, I was contributing to The New York Times Chinese Edition, and shortly after, I moved from Beijing to Hong Kong as an anchor and music supervisor at Phoenix U Radio.
I witnessed the prosperity of Hong Kong, and from there, I gained a better understanding of the world. The vibrant culture, diverse population, and dynamic business environment broadened my perspective, allowing me to appreciate the global interconnectedness.
At U Radio, I served as the anchor and music supervisor, where I hosted and produced programs, planned the music broadcasting schedule, and coordinated the entire station's music content.
In 2014, the runner in me mixed beats with beats, leading to the creation of running music that caught the attention of Men's Health by August.
Men's Health featured my work, emphasizing its originality and the significant impact it has had on the fitness and wellness community. This exposure led to an opportunity to collaborate with Nike, where I served as the Music Production Director for the 2017 Shanghai Marathon.
That same year, I founded Soundario Co., Ltd. in Shenzhen, pushing the boundaries of audio tech and wellness with our hit, the PILO Cloud Dream music sleep-aid pillow.
PILO not only soothes you into dreamland but also bagged us the prestigious German Red Dot Award.
Thanks to the stellar design and functionality of our PILO, I've snagged some prestigious awards like the Italian A'Design Award and the China Good Design Gold Award. And that's not all—my award-winning creations were also showcased at the Red Dot Museum.
PILO has won five international awards and three domestic awards, and has been featured in magazines such as Cosmopolitan and Wired.
And let's not forget the launch of our blockchain-based streaming platform, Soundario, in 2019, which aims to revolutionize the music industry. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and strict lockdown policies, I was unable to pursue any of the activities I love, leading me to ultimately decide to explore and create in a freer environment.
When not innovating, I'm translating hits like Bob Dylan's "Murder Most Foul," which garnered millions of views. I also boost emerging talent through initiatives like "Highlights Music." The vivid and individualistic videos continue to generate influence and revenue for these artists, who can use them for social media promotion before their live performances.
And now for a little personal touch—over the recent years, I've dedicated my efforts to organizing and operating innovative communities overseas. My wife and I, along with our dog named "Hacker," have made our home in the serene and culturally rich Chiang Mai, Thailand. The local community here is genuinely kind-hearted, and the rich tapestry of culture and history is endless and absolutely worth exploring. We've even started making videos to share our experiences, which you can find on YouTube.
I'm still on that digital nomad journey, growing into a true citizen of the world. I really hope you'll visit my website to get to know me better. You'll also find links to all my other social media profiles there.
One of my favorite authors once said: "I live in this world simply to understand some truths and encounter interesting things."
